The structure and tone feel Old Norse to me, but the setting is southern. Or perhaps tropical. Tropical owls? That is just my reading of course. Anyways, I like it!
Old Norse eh? Thor is my all-time hero. The setting is New Jersey. We have Eastern Screech owls which have an incredibly eerie call. We have a mimosa tree that had a couple of blooms remaining. 'yog' is local slang for a cigarette. I have a vintage WWII ammo crate on my back porch. Wallace Stevens: 'A poem explained is a poem spoiled" Ha!
